Put Your VISION FIRST – It is Key to Maintaining Your Independence

World Sight Day; a day set aside annually by the World Health organization (WHO) to raise awareness about blindness and vision problems is around the corner. The theme for this year’s World Sight Day is Vision First.

We, at Kesona Eye Centre, are using this opportunity to remind you to PUT YOUR VISION FIRST for the following reasons:

  1. Good vision is key to maintaining your independence. Without your vision, you will depend on other people to help, guide and direct you. This can be very frustrating for someone who was once independent.
  2. As a worker you need clear and comfortable vision to do your job correctly, safely and fast. Poor vision at work can cause you to make frequent and sometimes costly mistakes. It can make you work more slowly, increase your risks of accidents and in severe cases lose your job.
  3. As a student you need clear and well-functioning vision to learn and perform well at school.
  4. As a sportsman or woman, you need high performance vision to win games.
  5. As someone who desires to feel good and live your life to the fullest, you need a lifetime of good vision to achieve that.

Putting your vision first simply means making your eye health and safety a priority. Do not wait to develop vision problems before you start taking care of your eyes. Since some minor vision problems that go unnoticed can cause irreversible vision loss and blindness, it may be too late if you decide to wait.

Get your eyes tested routinely. Eye tests are necessary for the prevention, early detection and monitoring of eye diseases. If you do not have an eye problem, get your eyes tested once a year. If you already have any eye problem, follow the eye doctor’s recommendation on how frequently you should test your eyes

Take charge of your eye health. This means doing all that is within your control to ensure that your eyes are healthy, safe and functioning well. To do this;

  1. Eat healthy balanced meals rich in eye nutrients. Eye nutrients are found in leafy vegetables, fruits, oily fish, nuts, whole grains and eggs. If you are not getting enough nutrients from your diet, tell the eye doctor to recommend good eye supplements for you.
  2. Maintain normal blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
  3. Exercise regularly.
  4. Protect your eyes with UV-protection sunglasses while out in the sun.
  5. Protect your eyes with safety glasses if your job or activities expose you to objects that can cause eye injuries, irritations or infections.
  6. Avoid smoking. It increases the risk of cataract and age-related central vision loss

To help you put your vision first, Eyecare NG (our eye care promotion and development agency) will be sponsoring FREE EYE TEST for patients who have not tested their eyes in the past one year.

DATE: Thursday 10th October – Saturday 12th October, 2019

TIME: 10am – 2pm each day

If you have not done your eye test this year, this is an opportunity to get it done. Please note that only the test is free.
