For the cat-eye look, many people put eyeliner along the inside of their eyelids. This action, however, comes with significant risks, so we strongly advise against it.
Applying eyeliner along the inside of your eyelids can do the following;
- Block the eyelid glands that secrete the oily component of the tear film (which protects the surface of your eyes and prevents them from drying out).
- Increase your risk of eye injury by the applicator.
- Get the makeup product into your eyes, which causes eye irritation and, in severe cases, an eye infection.
So, what do you do if makeup gets into your eye?
- Rinse your eyes thoroughly with clean running water until you flush out all the makeup (mascara, eyeliner, or eye shadow flakes).
- If you wear contact lenses, remove them before flushing your eyes. Afterwards, clean the lenses with the appropriate lens solution.
- If your eyes are irritated, applying over-the-counter eye lubricants may give you some relief.
- Don’t re-insert your contact lenses into your eyes while they are still irritated.
- If you do not get relief within 24 hours, consult the eye doctor, as you may have an injury on the surface of your eye or have developed an infection that requires treatment.
For healthy, beautiful eyes, it’s important to adhere to safety precautions for eye makeup use, application, and removal.
