Viral Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inner surfaces of the eyelids.

Viral conjunctivitis is caused by viruses. The common causative organisms are the adenoviruses. Other viruses like herpes simplex virus and varicella zoster virus can also cause viral conjunctivitis. Sometimes, the cornea may also be affected resulting in a condition known as viral keratoconjunctivitis. Discharge from a viral infection is always watery or slightly milky. If the cornea is affected, there may be pain, light sensitivity, and blurry vision.
